It has been a busy few months for 28 South in the EPBC Act space.
Since March, we have negotiated the final conditions packages for three urban development projects regulated under the Act: two residential and one industrial. Several more of our urban development and renewables projects are progressing well along the assessment pathway.
We are pleased that the Commonwealth regulator agreed that our projects achieved an acceptable balance between development and conservation and that our offsets were well-positioned and valuable to the affected species. While negotiations required to secure approvals under the Act can be time-consuming and rigorous, there is no doubt that they benefit from courteous dialogue and a proactive approach by consultants.
We’re particularly proud of the offset sites. Each is located in a strategically important part of the landscape and will deliver credible conservation outcomes for matters of national environmental significance, such as the Koala, Greater glider, Grey-headed flying fox, Swift parrot, and two Threatened Ecological Communities. Combined, they will rehabilitate (and protect in perpetuity) almost 500 hectares of otherwise unprotected farmland. They also add to the ~1,000 hectares of offset we have now negotiated with the Commonwealth regulator in the last 3 years.
